Photo Feature

Yesterday I had on my list of snow day activities to take pictures. I had originally intended to take pics around the yard of snow covered items. But since I knew I wanted to include a photo of the orchid bloom yesterday, it turned out to be a photo shoot in and of itself.

My immediate thought for pictures were take macros, because it would be quick and easy. But that's what I always do, and they weren't giving me any "wow" factor.

Some people are able to create these great vignettes that make me wish they were displayed in my home. These images do not portray that feeling to me, and I really need to get better at creating interest with styling.

I also played around with some lighting techniques with just a clip-on desk lamp. The back-lit bloom is interesting, as well as some of the shadows created from the direct lighting.
So even though I didn't create a masterpiece of photographic art, it turned out to be a good exercise for me to branch out and try some new things. A small checkmark in the "achievement" column, I think.

10 thoughtful people had to say...:

Ok, all is in the eye of the beholder...for sure. I think those pictures are master pieces! You did a great job and I love the one of the orchid by the brick wall. Definately an achievement - well done!

I dont know about everyone else, but I think your photos are really good. Your eye is much better than mine and I'm really enjoying you as you grow in your photography! :)

Not giving you the wow factor? But these close up shots are awesome. You've captured the beauty of the orchid absolutely perfectly.

I'm new to your blog but I've been browsing through your past posts and I love it!

I'm your new follower!

I love orchids...have several in my home. I love to paint them too.
Your macro shots gave a whole new meaning to the close up for me.
The first set,,,shocked me kind of cause they actually looks quite "scary" to me...like they big teeth which I never noticed before. The second set in the pots...I am drawn to the brick wall.I have a thing for bricks:)
The last set...well I just love these with this light effect giving the hard and soft edges and turning the white into blue...fabulous,,,makes me want to start throwing the paint around just looking at them. Thanks for the inspiration and seeing the orchid with different eyes.

The orchids are beautiful. I wish I had so many vocabulary words for my camera. On & Off are hard concepts for me.
