This week I've been thinking about my word for the year, achieve. First off, I am so touched by all of the comments that were left last week when I posted my word. I never in my wildest dreams would have thought that when I started this online journal three years ago that anybody would be interested in reading it, or even yet, keep coming back for more. Moving around as we have, it's been difficult for me to meet people and make friends, but through blogging I get to spend time with like-minded people that inspire and encourage me...so, thank you!
Now, while picking achieve as my word does pertain to actually getting stuff done, the real crux of choosing this word was so that at then end of the year I didn't feel like I had let it slip by. Our time is finite, and I do need to take a more active role in my life. (Yesterday's shooting in AZ really sorta drives this point home for me.)
Part of Ali Edwards online workshop for One Little Word is to create an album/journal to help keep your word cultivated throughout the year with her monthly prompts. I've been wanting to create an art journal for a while, and I thought this was as good an opportunity as any...I'd actually have something to journal.
Some of the prompts this month were to claim your word by defining it, expressing why this word was chosen, coming up with similar words, list some things that we "invite" to occur as a result of choosing this word, and a quote or two using the word.
And now I know why I never really got into art journaling...it was hard for me to just let go and put stuff on the page. I spent most of the week on these three pages. I needed them to look "pretty", like the cool journals kept by Michelle Ward, Tracy and Teesha Moore, and many others. I know this is contradictory to what people say about creating art journals—how it's about the process, and not what it looks like. I just have difficulty doing it that way. I would love to throw caution to the wind and make a mess. I even tried splattered paint on my quote page, but hated that I couldn't control where they landed. ;-) But I look forward to see where the process takes me and what I achieve.

8 thoughtful people had to say...:
I have always admired you for being capable of putting into words what I could not. Your first paragraph sums up how I feel about all the wonderful women I have met because of the internet. I'm always grateful for their friendship, to include yours of course!!
You have an amazing talent and don't let yourself get all crowded on how you'd like for your creativity to transend--because there are many, many of us that wish, our art liked as fabulous as yours!!! I know I'm one of them.
You did an amazing job with your prompts, I loved that you thought outside the box when it come to the colors, and the placement of your cards--great job---can't wait to see more.
What you show here is marvelous!...I love your word and the quotes and it is very motivating to read this post and it is like 1 in the morning here and I feel like going into my studio and painting...see what you have done!!!
Hi Christine, thanks so much for entering my contest, really appreciate it. Best of luck with your challenges. Take care, Riki
Christine,
Your journal looks fantastic. I am not able to journal because of exactly what you are saying...it will never look like Teesha's, Michelle Ward's, etc. etc. etc. My daughter gave me an on-the-road journal kit for Christmas, a very thoughtful gift, but aI just cringed!
You have your own style, Christine. I hope you keep it up!
Hugs,
Syz
Your journal is an inspiration. Sea Witch
Think your journal looks fabulous! I'm not doing Ali's workshop this year but am doing the Soul Restoration one at Brave Girls Club. I too struggle with art journaling for the same reasons as you! It will be fun to see how we both progress through the journey!
Good luck!
blessings,
A great start to your journal...I love the quotes! thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment, I appreciate it!
Love, love, love your journal. I would love to do something like this for the bulletin board in my classroom. Love the graphic look and the inspiration it conveys.
