Wow, what a whirlwind the holidays were. Of course, being the procrastinator I am, I was cleaning out bedrooms and getting the house ready for my sister, brother-in-law and nephew up until the very moment they walked through the door. Carol, Wayne and Matt were scheduled to come in on Tuesday night, but Mother Nature had other ideas. We got about 4-5 inches of snow throughout the day, on top of the 10+ we had gotten the previous Friday. They were able to make to Chicago, but flights to Milwaukee had been canceled and no seats were available until the 25th. We were able to get them a hotel near the airport and they rode the train up in the morning, stopping at the airport in Milwaukee to get their bags. Although inconvenient, it certainly could have been more of a travel nightmare.Once they got here, we had a nice relaxing visit. Christmas was low-key with presents in the morning (we didn't even wrap the gifts!), and a scrumptious dinner of horseradish-crusted beef tenderloin, potatoes boulangere, broccoli casserole, and tiramisu. Yum! We avoided the maul on Friday and hung around the house, while Denis worked a half day. Saturday we headed downtown to the Harley Davidson museum and dinner at the fabulous Maders German restaurant. Wayne and Matt had a cold, but great, day on Sunday by heading to Green Bay to watch the Packers beat the Detroit Lions, while Carol and I ran around to the shops. Denis worked on Monday, so the rest of us headed to Cedarburg for lunch and a stroll through the lovely shops along the main street. Tuesday they got ready to head on home, but not without another trip to Maders for a late lunch. Wouldn't you know it, it started to snow as we headed to the airport, but not so bad it interferred with their flights.
It was really great to spend time with my family for the holidays, and we enjoyed having them in our "new" house.
